Margarite's Court Dress

I loved the costumes of the movie Ever After, they are so pretty. My favorite though has to be one of the evil step-sister Margarite, the rosy red dress she wears to the tennis match and at the end of the movie. I love the beautiful velvet, and the color. I have decided this is one I will make someday, maybe next year.

Descrition of Dress
I got most of my information on the dresses in this movie from Everaftercostumes.com. Though the site does not have information about Margarite, it is a great resource thought since the dresses are basically the same. I also found this site that has some information. From what I know and can tell from watching the movie, Margarite's dress is a rosy red velvet dress with a high waist that has some gold trim at the waist line and white lace around the neckline. The sleeves are huge and very full on top with lots of pleats. It looks like there are 4 slits on the top and bottom of each sleeve allowing the chemise sleeve to poke though with 4 gold buttons on the top side of the sleeves. It looks like the sleeves are linned in some light pink fabric. The red over sleeves are open at the bottom, showing the white chemise sleeves. Im not sure what the chemise is made of, possible silk.

Pictures
I have found only two pictures on the web of this dress, one black and white and one colored. The colored one has the dress a little darker than in the movie, it is a more rosy red that that.

Here is a painting that might have inspired the dress, it is Portrait of Jeanne d'Aragon by Raffaello Sanzio, courtesy of Raveness Renaissance

Pattern ideas:
For the dress I will use McCall 2806, the blue version. For the over sleeves, I think that Simplicity 9929 could work, I will also use the gown part of the pattern for the chemise.
